WK 14, Group B

I am a discussion leader this week.
Here are my questions for you guys.

Q1. How is self-regulation different from other-regulations?

Q2. What is the Zone of Proximal development?

Q3. What are 6 functions scaffolded help?

Discussion Question
-> There is two views for child's private speech, as an evidence of children's ego-centrism and children's growing ability to regulate their own behavior. Which view do you agree on?

Thanks, guys.

  1. Q1. How is self-regulation different from other-regulations
    - Adults are capable of autonomous of funcioning by self regulation but children
or unskilled individual learns by carrying out tasks and activities under the
guidence of other more skilled individuals. Because children or unskilled learner
are inducted into a shared understanding of how to do things through
    collaborative talk.

Q2. What is the Zone of Proximal development?

The difference between the child's developmental level as determined by
independent problem solving and the higher level of potential development as
determined through problem solving under adult guidance or in collaboration
    with more capable peers.

Q3. What are 6 functions scaffolded help?
    1. recruiting interest in the task,
    2.simplifying the task,
3.maintaining pursuit of the goal, marking critical features and discrepancies
    between what has been
    4.produced and the ideal solution,
    5.controlling frustration during problem solving,
6.demonstrating an idealized version of the act to be performed.

  2. Q1. How is self-regulation different from other-regulations?
It is complete regulation and the terminal regulation.

Q2. What is the Zone of Proximal development?
    The best zone for learning

Q3. What are 6 functions scaffolded help?
interest, managing task simply, goal, controling emotion, two of them are difficult
for me to understand. But, one is remarking the feature in process of learni and
the other is showing best model.

Ability to regulate their own. Partly, I think the former makes sense, but child's private speech is often repeating same things without their noticing that. It can be said that kids is practing something but because they are kids, they can't control their behavior, so their unconsious behavior is released into outside.

  3. Q1. How is self-regulation different from other-regulations?

Self-regulation is conducted for skilled people who have enough ability to regulate by themselves while other-regulation is for unskilled learners or children who need a lead of other people who can do self-regulation, or skilled people.

Q2. What is the Zone of Proximal development?

It is an area of knowledge where learners can improve their ability to perform independently.

Q3. What are 6 functions scaffolded help?

Scaffolded help learners excite their interest again, simplify the task, keep trying to achieve the goal, evaluate and criticize by themselves, control frustration and follow the ideal model.

    Discussion Question
-> There is two views for child's private speech, as an evidence of children's ego-centrism and children's growing ability to regulate their own behavior. Which view do you agree on?

I agree with the view of private speech as an evidence of growing ability because through private speech, people could develop their intelligence. Even the adults sometimes tell something to themselves to concentrate on the task or to arrange what they do. Therefore, the humans can enhance their ability through talking with themselves.

    Highlighter!!
    1. Meditation : language is the meditation for thinking and expressing the new concepts
    2. Self-regulation : is conducted for skilled people who have enough ability to regulate by themselves
    3. Other-regulation : is for unskilled learners or children who need a lead of other people who can do self-regulation, or skilled people
    4. Scaffolding : the process to perform independently while getting help form skilled people
    5. Zone of Proximal Development : an area of knowledge where learners can improve their ability to perform independently
    6. Private(inner) speech : to talk to oneself to improve their ability
    7. Activity theory: trying to complete the activity and joining the activity, learners can interact with others and through that, they can approach the level that they can regulate by themselves.
    8. Appropriate: to make the information from outside to be one’s after fully understanding about it
