Week 15, Group D

Hello, Everyone
I think we don't have enough time to read it for weekdays b'cause of our microteaching, so I uploaded it early:)

Q1. What is the Long's steps to language acquition?

Q2. Which conversational tactics used in pair of NS & NNS?

Q3. What is different or similiar between Long's and Krashen's terms?

D.Q
I think NS & NNS pair is good way to develop NNS learners' language skills because they have more conversations between them. BUT, I am not sure about the NSs' side.

Is there any good or special effects to NS in that situation(with NNS)?

* NS : Native speaker / NNS : Non-Native speaker

See you on tuesday:D

  1. Q1: Long went on to propose his Interaction Hypothesis as an extension of Krashen’s original Input Hypothesis.
    Q2: The NS-NNS pairs were much more likely to make use of conversational tactics such as repetitions, confirmation checks, comprehension checks or clarification requests.
    Q3: They are collaborating to ensure that the learner is receiving i+1, in Krashen’s terms, rather than i+3, or indeed,i+0, as Larsen-Freeman and Long put it: Modification of the interactional structure of conversation is a better candidate for a necessary condition for acquisition. The role it plays in negotiation for meaning helps to make input comprehensible while still containing unknown linguistic elements, and, hence, potential intake for acquisition.
    D: In NS side, they could get different idea or creativeness from NNS during GW,PW in the class.
    Applier: According to Long’s Interaction Hypothesis, NS’s role is the most important material in the classroom. However in reality, this situation usually happens in EFL class in the English speaking country such as America, England, Canada and Australia. We can apply this method with 2 different ways in Korean classroom environment. The first one is providing NS teacher in every single school or classroom, if possible then the results of the language acquisition will be highly developed. The last thing is construction of Hakwon including many NS as instructors. In conclusion, this hypothesis sounds very ideal for Asian countries so that we should mix with another hypothesis with Long’s hypothesis to make proper environment to learn English.
