Hello, my group!
This is Jasmine and I'd like to share our opinion on this week's topic with you guys.
Comprehension Question
Q 1. What is the difference between 'acquisition' and 'learning'?
Q 2. What does using 'monitor' means in the monitor hypothesis?
Q 3. In what situation, learner can 'filter out' their input?
Discussion Question
Q. Do you agree with Krashen's 'i+1' theory? and have you ever experienced?
In week 8, we read about Krashen's 5 'hypotheses, and I hope my questions are helpful for your reading. Thank you:)*
Q1. The difference between aquisition and learning.
ReplyDeleteAcquisition is acquiring the language with no conscious attention to language form like children pick up their mother tongue.
Q2. meaning of "monotor"
When the students are making output, they are focused more on accuracy than fluency with learnt relevant knowledge.
Q3 When Ss can filter out their input?
When they are tence, angry, anxious or bored, they may "filter out" input.
Discussion Q : Do you agree with "i+1"? Any experiences?
I strongly agree with ' i+1 ' Most students may give up or avoid learning when the input is too much difficult. Given comprehensible input at i+1, acquisition will take place effortlessly and involuntarily.
I have a lot of experiences related to i+1 not only in language learning but also other things.

ReplyDeleteIn order for students to acquire the language unconsciously, teacher shoud lead the class communictive. Increasing the exposure time of language is imprtant especially in EFL class. Teacher should help them to relax and motivated in the class. Because when the students are stressed and un-motivated, the affective filter will be up which means prevents learners from acquiring language
ReplyDeleteComprehension Question
ReplyDeleteQ 1. What is the difference between 'acquisition' and 'learning'?
- Acquisition happened naturally and without attention to language form, while learning is studying with conscious focus on the language form and rules.
Q 2. What does using 'monitor' means in the monitor hypothesis?
- Using monitor means applying the language form and rules when one produces the language.
Q 3. In what situation, learner can 'filter out' their input?
- When learners are not settled emotionally; for example, when they are angry, stressful, and nervous, they filter out their input.
Discussion Question
Q. Do you agree with Krashen's 'i+1' theory? and have you ever experienced?
- I agree with his i+1 theory. If the content which teacher wants to input are too difficult, learners will spend much time to understand it and it may take longer to acquire what they understand. However, if learners learn similar level to their current level, they could understand and acquire easily.
- When I learned passive, I didn’t know much irregular past perfect form of verb, so it was too difficult to understand how to use that grammar. I guess if I learned it after I understand and memorize more words, it would be easier.
Q.1 Aqusition is a process that we are exposed to samples of second language which we understand. Learning is a conscious process of study and attention to form and rle learning.
ReplyDeleteQ2. Monitor means that learners don't use L2 naturally as a language but process L2 as if they study or organize soemthing.
Q3. Learners's concentration can't focus on speaking L2
------------------------------------------
Case by case, but most of the case, I mean students, "i + 1" is the most effective way. In the Korea English classs, despite its lack of interaction as a language class, this theory is the best way for students who have problem improving their grade because it stops going up. One difficult problem, in 'i+1', is that everyT can't find exatly 'i', and it is not easy thing to best teachers.
- Acquisition: It is a process that we get first language. And it achieved without focus on language from and unconsciously.
ReplyDelete- Learning: It means studying language focusing on language rules and form consciously and trying to acquire it.
- Monitor: Using monitor means applying the language form and rules when one produces the language.
- Input: It is what teachers want to teach learners.
- i+1: Input of proper level for learners helps them comprehend and acquire what they learn at the same time.
- Affective filter: it is a invisible barrier which block up the learner’s input.
- Filter up/down: Filter goes up when learner’s feeling is not calm; for example, when they are angry, stressful, and nervous and they filter out their input, while filter goes down when learner feels good, and are relaxed and motivated.
And it is achieved without focus on language from and unconsciously.
