2. What are the four different components, or subcategories of making up the construct of communicative competence?(first two define linguistic system and last two define functional aspect of communication)

Interlanguage: this approach considered the development of the IL to be a creative process driven by inner forces in interaction with environmental factors and influenced both by L1 and by input from the target language.
An interlanguage has the following characteristics;
Systematic dynamic variable reduced system
The linguistics of second language acquisition
“native like” production is neither intended nor desired by many speakers and assuming that it is or should be the ultimate goal for all L2 learners may be considered some what imperialistic
1. CALP is dimension of proficiency, It is what learners often use in classroom exercises and tests that focus on form. Also, It is in the form of context-reduced. On the other hand, BICS is the communivative capacity to be able to function in daily interpersonal exchanges. It is in the form of context-embedded.
ReplyDelete2. Grammatical competence, discourse competence belong to linguistic system and sociolinguistic competence, strategic competence are functional aspects of communication.
3. It is the four characteristics of interlanguage which are systematic, dynamic, variable, reduced system.
D.Q
Actually, many english learners desire "Native-like" production in Korea. Parents wish that their children learn Eng. from Native-speaker and some people judge other how much they use english like native. I think we should use english like a native(I mean in grammar, pronunciation, vocab., etc.), but NOT must. If we can communicate to people from other countries using english, it means we have communicative competence.

* How does this information help an English teacher?
- As a teacher knowing about four communicative components, he can help students improve their skills. I mean If there is a student in the class who makes a mistake on writing, a teacher can easily check what they need and which one is lack of ability to student.
* Can this information be applied to real classrooms?
- Of course, we already have had many experiences while we were studying in school. Sometimes, we focused on grammar or discourse.
* If so, what are some examples of how this information can be applied in the classroom?
- First students learn the sound of alphabet and how to read the words or short sentence. After then, they learn connection of sentences through dialogue and books. They will need more information or sometimes, concern about real situation. Students learn step by step to develop their communication skill including grammar, discourse, sociolinguistic, and strategic competence.
I try to do it well, but not sure. Anyway, If you guys have different thinking or opinion just reply to me. We can discuss more about it:) See you tmr^^
1. CALP is that dimension of proficiency in which the learner manipulates or reflects upon the surface features of language outside of the immediate interpersonal context. On the other hand, BICS is the communicative capacity that all children acquire in order to be able to function in daily interpersonal exchanges.
ReplyDelete2. Grammatical competence, Discourse competence, Sociolinguistic competence, Strategic competence
3. Systematic, Dynamic, Variable, Reduced system
Discussion
: I think we don't have to be like native speakers. It is important for non-native speakers to communicate with others without difficulty.
