Hello guys:) This is Angela.
Here are questions about this week's topic.
1. What are six levels of the revised Bloom's taxonomy and what happened in each levels?
2. What does the information processing model represent?
3. What is short term memory?
*Discussion
The book mentioned that a person devote to attention depending on how he "feels" about a learning situation. What do you think about that emotions affect learning? Based on your experience as a student or a teacher, explain about your opinion.

ReplyDelete1. What are six levels of the revised Bloom's taxonomy and what happened in each levels?
ReplyDelete1) Remember
recall and recognition of previously learned material
2) Understand
making sense of the material by converting the material from one form to anther,by interpreting the material, or by estimating future trends.
3) Apply
using learned material in new situations with a minimum of direction.
4) Analyze
breaking material into its component parts so that its structure may be understood.
5) Evaluate
judging the value of material based on specific criteria and standards.
6) Create
putting together to form a plan that is new to the learner.
2. What does the information processing model represent?
3. What is short term memory?
- I think these two questions are not for this week.ㅠㅠ

-I think emotions play an important role in second language learning and teaching because emotions can assist cognitive learning. Therefore, when one learns second language and likes what one is learning, he or she will be able to maintain attention and interest in learning.
1. What are six levels of the revised Bloom's taxonomy and what happened in each levels?
ReplyDelete1) Remember : recall and recognition of semantic memory.
2) Understand : the ability to make sense of the material.
3) Apply : the ability to use learned material in new situations with a minimum of direction.
4) Analyze : the ability to break material into its component parts.
5) Evaluate : the ability to judge the value of material.
6) Create : the ability to put parts together to form a plan that is new to the learner.
2. What does the information processing model represent?
It refers the brain behavior which can recognize learning, storing and remembering in dynamic and interactive processes. The model shows how the information from our environment senses reject or accept it for further processing.
3. What is short term memory?
It is used by cognitive neuroscientists to include all of the early steps of temporary memory that will lead to stable long-term memory. It involves immediate memory & working memory.

- Since emotions play an important role in the thinking process, as a teacher it is important to understand the role in encoding emotional messages into long-term memory. Definitely when Ss are interested & motivated, feel challenging then they can forward to have positive emotions.
Summarize:
In this chapter, we learned about thinking skills & learning skill. The different types of questions bring the different type of thinking. And also emotion affects thinking that if we like what we are learning, we are more likely to maintain attention and interest and move to higher level thinking. There are a model of the cognitive domain, each 6 steps refer to each process of thinking.

ReplyDeleteHow does this information help an English teacher?
When second language teachers know characteristics of human thinking, they can understand how language learners go through a process when they are learning language. With this, it can help the teachers to make good environment for their students. For example, teachers can help learners to organize content to facilitate more complex processing. In addition, with modeling thinking skills, teachers gives authentic role models when they use creative and critical reflection to improve theri practice.

ReplyDelete1. What are six levels of the revised Bloom's taxonomy and what happened in each level?
ReplyDeleteREMEMBER is the lowest level of learning in the cognitive domain. It refers to the mere rote recall and recognition of previous learned material.
UNDERSTAND. It is the ability to make sense of the material. When the students understand material then it can be used for future to solve problems and to make decisions.
APPLY refers to the ability to use learned material in new situations. Learner can apply data to complete a new task. Practice is essential at this level.
ANALYZE is the ability to break material into its component parts so that its structure may be understand. The learner must be able to organize and reorganize information into categories.
EVALUATE is the ability to judge the value of material based on specific criteria and standard.
CREATE refers to the ability to put parts together to form a plan that is new to the learner.
2. What does the information processing model represent?
3. What is short term memory?
Q2,3 are for next week.

In my experience many teachers forced me to memorize vocabulary to learn English that made me to demotivate to learn and acquire language. Because I only know the meaning, I cannot apply it in a sentence. It was not fun at all so, I barely remember the words. However if a teacher can provide positive emotions, students can be acquire more and they enhance their ability to storage more information.
As Summarizer
In this chapter, the main topic is how does thinking skill help students learning. Thinking is complex process for solving problems, abstracting, learning and etc. Also, thinking is representational system which recalls memories related to a word. Emotions play an important role in the thinking process because, learners generate positive emotions then their scope of attention broadens and their critical thinking skills are enhanced. There are two categories in designing model which are convergent or lower-order thinking and divergent or high-order thinking. Teachers need to work harder at teaching students how to organize content in such a way that it facilitates and promotes higher-order thinking. Also, having established a classroom environment that fosters higher-level thinking, the teacher’s next task is to select practical and easily understood model for students the skills they need for creative, critical, and divergent thinking. According to Bloom there is taxonomy of the cognitive domain which is useful model for enhancing thinking. Later on a group of educators worked to revise the original taxonomy. The revised level of Bloom’s taxonomy is Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate and Create. Using framework can accelerate learning and elevate student interest and achievement, especially for slower learners.
